Among the Abénaki, there is a legend of Spirit Sisters. The first and oldest sister spins the thread of life, the second sister measures the length of life, the third sister cuts the thread, and the forth weaves your thread into the fabric of social life among the people.
I have carved the elder sister as she spins the thread of life on a traditional distaff and spindle. At her shoulder rests an Owl, imbuing the thread with both wisdom and insight, as well as death and darkness. Marking the struggles of life while giving the power to overcome as a man. At her feet sits a wolf. The wolf spirit animal is the pathfinder, and awaits to provide guidance in life to the one who’s thread is being spun.
